Hermit crabs are crustaceans known for living in borrowed shells to protect their soft bodies. Unlike true crabs, they lack a hard exoskeleton on their abdomen and must find larger shells as they grow.
They are social creatures, often living in groups in coastal areas and tropical regions. As pets, hermit crabs need a humid environment, a proper diet of fruits, vegetables, and proteins, and access to salt and freshwater.
With proper care, hermit crabs can live 5–15 years. They are low-maintenance but require specific conditions, including deep sand for burrowing and multiple shells for changing.
