The Airedale Terrier, known as the "King of Terriers," is the largest of the terrier breeds and is highly versatile. Originally bred for hunting otters and rodents, they have been used in police, military, and guard work due to their intelligence and bravery. Their wire-haired coat requires regular hand-stripping to maintain its texture, but they shed minimally. Training can be moderately challenging due to their independent and strong-willed nature, but they respond well to firm and consistent leadership.
