The Akita is a large, powerful breed originally bred in Japan for hunting and guarding. Known for their loyalty and protective nature, they are affectionate with their families but can be reserved or aloof with strangers. Their short-haired, double coat sheds heavily, especially during seasonal changes. Training can be challenging due to their strong-willed and independent nature, requiring firm, consistent leadership and early socialization. While not overly active, they still need regular exercise to stay healthy and well-behaved.
