The Entlebucher Mountain Dog (pronounced ENT-leh-boo-cur) is the smallest of the four Swiss Mountain Dog breeds, originally bred for herding cattle in the Alps. These compact and muscular dogs are hardworking, highly energetic, and deeply loyal. Their short, weather-resistant double coat is easy to groom, though it sheds moderately, especially during seasonal changes. Entlebuchers are highly intelligent and love having a job to do, excelling in agility, obedience, and herding trials. They require daily physical and mental exercise, and early socialization and consistent training are essential due to their naturally protective instincts.
