The Belgian Malinois is a highly intelligent, energetic, and driven breed, originally bred for herding but now widely used in police, military, and protection work. They are loyal and protective, making them excellent guard dogs and family protectors. Their short-haired double coat sheds moderately year-round, with seasonal shedding spikes, requiring regular brushing. Training is easy, as they are highly trainable and eager to work, but they need firm leadership and structured training. With their high energy levels, they require intense daily exercise, mental stimulation, and a job to do to stay happy.
The Belgian Malinois is a high-energy breed originating from the city of Malines (Mechelen) in Belgium. It is one of four varieties of the Belgian Shepherd Dog, distinguished by its short-haired fawn coat with a black mask.
