The Siberian Husky is a high-energy, social breed originally bred for sledding in harsh Arctic conditions. They are friendly, intelligent, and confident, but their independent nature can make training a challenge—they require firm, consistent guidance. Their long-haired, double coat sheds heavily year-round, with intense seasonal shedding ("coat blowouts") requiring frequent grooming. Huskies have high energy levels, needing daily exercise and mental stimulation, and they are known for their playful, mischievous personality.
The breed was developed by the Chukchi people of Siberia for endurance sled pulling. They were later introduced to Alaska, gaining fame in sled races and as lifesaving transport dogs during the 1925 serum run to Nome. Today, they remain a popular working and companion breed.
