The Swedish Lapphund is Sweden’s national dog and one of the oldest native breeds in the country, originally developed by the Sámi people for herding and guarding reindeer. This breed is known for its fox-like looks, cheerful bark, and lively personality—making it a hardy, versatile working companion with a warm, loyal nature.
Its thick, weather-resistant coat sheds heavily, especially in spring and fall, and requires frequent brushing to prevent matting and manage shedding. Lapphunds are highly intelligent, responsive, and enthusiastic, thriving in active homes with plenty of structure, activity, and mental stimulation.
