The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and calm livestock guardian dog from the Pyrenees Mountains of France and Spain, bred to protect sheep and flocks from predators. They are gentle and affectionate with family, especially with children, but naturally alert and protective, making them excellent watchdogs. Their thick double coat sheds heavily, especially in spring and fall, and requires regular brushing to control mats and loose fur. While they are very intelligent, their independent nature can make training a challenge, so patience and consistency are key. They need moderate exercise and a job or purpose to thrive.
