The Kuvasz (pronounced KOO-vahss) is a majestic Hungarian livestock guardian dog, bred for centuries to protect flocks from predators in harsh climates. These dogs are fiercely loyal and deeply protective, with a natural instinct to watch over family and property. They are calm and affectionate with their people, but wary of strangers, making early socialization essential.
Their beautiful white double coat is long and thick, offering weather protection but also heavy seasonal shedding, requiring frequent brushing—especially in spring and fall. Though very intelligent, the Kuvasz is independent and can be stubborn, so training must be consistent, respectful, and confident.
